Since 1 January 2025 every stay in Greece carries a small, government-mandated Climate Crisis Resilience Fee. Your host uses EnvFee to collect it securely before check-in. Here is how to check the request is genuine.
Law 5073/2023 Stripe payments No markups for guests
The Climate Crisis Resilience Fee (Greek: Τέλος Ανθεκτικότητας στην Κλιματική Κρίση, “TAKK”) replaced the old overnight-stay tax on 1 January 2025. It is set by Greek law 5073/2023 and funds recovery from wildfires, floods and other climate-related disasters.
It is charged per property, per night — not per person — and by law it must be collected separately from your accommodation price, which is why your host sends it as its own payment. Hosts are required to issue you a receipt for it.
| Property type | Fee |
|---|---|
| ☀️ High season · April – October | |
| Apartments, rooms and houses up to 80 m² | €8.00 |
| Detached houses over 80 m² | €15.00 |
| ❄️ Low season · November – March | |
| Apartments, rooms and houses up to 80 m² | €2.00 |
| Detached houses over 80 m² | €4.00 |
| Example: a 3-night stay in a city apartment in July = 3 × €8 = €24.00. Hotels and serviced apartments use a different scale based on their star rating. | |
Takes under a minute. If any step fails, don’t pay — contact your host through the platform you booked on, or email us.

The page shows your property, your check-in and check-out dates and the number of nights. If those don’t match your booking, stop.
Nights × the official nightly rate from the table above. Nothing is added on top. A request for a round “deposit” or a percentage of your stay is a red flag.
Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay are handled by Stripe on an encrypted page. Your receipt is emailed from @envfee.gr and shows your name, the dates of stay, the date of issue and the amount paid.
Payments run on Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified processor used by millions of businesses. EnvFee never sees or stores your full card number.
Every page and every transaction uses TLS encryption. Your personal data is handled under the GDPR.
The receipt is the proof your host needs for the Greek tax authority (AADE). It arrives by email immediately after payment and can be re-sent on request.
Fraudsters sometimes copy the wording of legitimate fee requests. These are the tells.
EnvFee is a compliance service used by Greek short-term-rental hosts to collect the Climate Crisis Resilience Fee and issue the legally required receipt. We act on behalf of your host; the fee itself goes to the Greek state through your host’s monthly declaration.
Support is available in English and Greek at info@envfee.gr.
Yes. The Climate Crisis Resilience Fee was introduced by law 5073/2023 and applies to every tourist accommodation in Greece, including Airbnb-style short-term rentals, from 1 January 2025. Hosts must collect it and declare it to the tax authority every month.
The law requires the fee to be shown and collected separately from the accommodation price, with its own receipt. That is why it is not part of the amount you paid on Airbnb, Booking.com or Vrbo, and why your host sends a separate link.
Per property, per night. Two guests sharing one apartment for three nights in July pay 3 × €8 = €24 in total, not each.
If the stay does not take place, the fee is not owed. Contact your host or email info@envfee.gr with your booking reference and the payment will be refunded to the original card.
The receipt is sent to the email address entered at payment, usually within a minute. Check your spam folder first; if it is not there, email info@envfee.gr with the date and amount of the payment and we will re-send it.
Card payments are processed by Stripe on an encrypted page. EnvFee does not see or store your full card number. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also supported.
